Community Events Grants
The Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund supports community awareness events
that communicate the importance of hospice and end-of-life care issues
to the general public.
- The event must be educational in nature and must be focused on
issues related to hospice and/or end-of-life care.
- The term “event” includes but is not limited to educational
seminars, in-services, conferences, community memorial services, support
groups, bereavement camps, HFA Teleconference, community projects such
as memorial gardens, prayer shawls, etc.
- The event must be open to and available to the general public. The
applicant must present documentation of the communications plan as part
of its grant application to ensure that it is open to and available to
the general public.
- The grant application must include a complete event budget with
reasonable expenses.
- The Fund will not support event grant requests that should more
appropriately be considered for support through the agency’s marketing
or advertising budget. Inappropriate requests include events whose
primary intention is to generate referrals or provide publicity or
direct benefit to any specific hospice.
- 50% of the event budget must be obtained from a source other than
the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund. If the hospice agency does not
intend to support the remaining 50% of the event budget with their own
operating funds, applicants are encouraged to find community partners to
share in the financial support of events. The Heartland Hospice Memorial
Fund will fund community event grant requests up to 50 percent of total
costs.
- If food is to be served, all reasonable consideration should be
given to obtaining the best catering cost possible. The Fund will not
consider more than one food request per event.
- A complete grant application must be submitted at least 45 days
prior to the event to ensure that there is time for any
questions/clarifications about the application and to provide the
applicant with adequate time to secure an alternate source of funding if
needed.
